As Sony continues to go all-in on its Spider-Man villain solo film series, the latest being Kraven the Hunter coming out this fall, it looks like at least one baddie might not make it. Right after finding its director in Jonas Cuaron (2015’s Desierto), the El Muerto solo movie starring rapping sensation Bad Bunny has been taken off Sony’s release schedule. Sony has undated Bad Bunny Spidey-universe movie set for release next year, which was originally scheduled to hit January 12. This isn’t the first time things have been jostled over at Sony with movies being moved around for the past few years since the release of Venom 2. There were two films added to the 2023 schedule back in 2021, for June 23, 2023 and October 6, 2023. Across The Spider-Verse was released in early June and Kraven took that October 6 slot, but nothing is definite with the ongoing WGA strike at the moment.
Not necessarily a household name like Green Goblin or even Kraven, El Muerto is the story of Juan-Carlos Estrada Sánchez who becomes the Luchador known as El Muerto after donning a mystical mask. This was intended to give Bad Bunny, real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, a solo project as the rapper has started getting more into movies and even participating in WWE events.
There are still three unrevealed “Untitled Sony/Marvel” movies, with one dated for July 12, 2024, November 8, 2024, and another movie dated June 27, 2025. There are also three movies scheduled for release in the next year: the aforementioned Kraven, Madame Web, and Venom 3.
