With this summer’s European Championships getting underway on Friday night, Germany will welcome Scotland to Munich.
While England and France might be installed as the leading contenders over the next month, Germany have their sights set on mounting a genuine charge.
Meeting a Scotland squad that are simply dreaming of the chance to book a maiden knockout stage ticket, the Nationalelf will be looking to make an early statement of intent at the Allianz.
With plenty of EURO 24 betting markets available this summer, we have taken a glance at some of the most intriguing tips ahead of Friday’s opening showdown from Munich.
Germany to make an opening statement
Enduring what was another public World Cup nightmare out in Qatar 18 months ago as they failed to progress out of the group stage, Germany have a huge amount of pressure on their shoulders this summer.
Automatically booking their EURO 24 ticket as the host nation, Julian Nagelsmann’s squad will know the importance of making an early statement of intent when they arrive in Munich on Friday night.
However, although Germany might have struggled to find any real stability on the major tournament stage over recent times, the European giants do appear to have turned a recent corner under the guidance of the former RB Leipzig boss.
Notching back-to-back victories against France and Holland during March’s International break, Nagelsmann’s men are unbeaten in all of their previous four appearances their longest unbeaten run over the past two years.
Pencilled in as a potential contender alongside the duo of England and Les Bleus this summer, Germany will be excited to officially get their European adventure underway here.

Havertz to spearhead Germany’s charge
While Kai Havertz might have initially struggled to find any real stability after arriving at Arsenal last summer, the German international enjoyed what was a hugely impressive flurry since opening 2024.
Although many might have been shocked last summer as Mikel Arteta splashed out £65million on the former Chelsea star, the 24-year-old became a key part of Arsenal’s title charge and gained plenty of plaudits around north London.
Recording 13 Premier League strikes last season and often deployed in a false nine role, Havertz also registered 14 goals for club and country since opening the New Year.
Signing off the 2023/24 campaign with a goal against Everton on the final weekend, the one-time Bayer Leverkusen starlet could play a leading role as Germany look to get their hands on a first European crown since 1996.
Expected to spearhead Nagelsmann attack at on Friday night and also finding the net as Germany signed off their pre-EURO 24 preparations with a 2-1 victory against Greece, Havertz will be looking to test a leaky Scotland defence.

A tough opener for the Tartan Army
While Scotland might have gained a string of plaudits last year as they stormed their way to this summer’s European Championships, the Tartan Army have the feel of a squad seeking some much-needed stability.
Failing to progress out of the group stage during any of their historic four European adventures, Steve Clake’s men appear to have another major battle on their hands as they share Group A alongside Germany, Hungary and Switzerland.
Signing off their pre-tournament preparations with a downbeat 2-2 stalemate at home against Finland, Scotland have clinched just a single victory from any of their previous nine appearances across all competitions.
With that extended blip stemming back to September 8th, Clarke’s side will also be worried by a nightmare record against Friday’s hosts.
Including a 3-2 defeat when they last met Germany back in September 2015, Scotland have also lost all of their previous three showdowns against this summer’s title contenders by an aggregate score of 7-4.
